Our Board is comprised of people from across our region with a variety of backgrounds and skills, from local government, business and the community - each sharing a commitment to regional development.
Every committee meeting, the team ventures into the region to explore one of our local towns or areas. conducting the meetings outside of the office and on the ground, allowing us to meet businesses and organisations, to better understand the issues they are facing and how we can assist.

Rowena Abbey OAM
Chair | Yass
Rowena Abbey OAM was appointed as Chair of our Board in January 2021. Rowena was also awarded an OAM in 2023 for her service to local government and to the community of Yass.
Rowena Abbey has over 35 years’ experience in finance, risk management, governance and leadership in various industries in both the public and private sectors.
Rowena is the former Mayor of Yass Valley Council and the former Chair of the Canberra Region Joint Organisation (CRJO). She currently also holds the Chair position of SELX, which runs saleyards in Yass Valley NSW and Mortlake Victoria.
Rowena has previously been Treasurer at Ampolex Ltd and Optus Vision Ltd and was the Director of Syndications at ANZ Investment Bank.
Mrs Abbey has also held a number of Directorships throughout her career, including with Essential Energy, Cue Energy Resources Ltd, Australian Inland Energy and Water Infrastructure, Emmlink Pty Ltd, Yass Valley Aged Care Ltd and Optus Superannuation Fund.
Rowena and her husband run their sheep and cattle operation in Yass and she is passionate about regional NSW and Australia
Ross MacDiarmid AO
Deputy Chair | ACT
Ross was formerly the Chair of RDAACT and has been appointed as the RDASNA Deputy Chair. Additional experience includes Member of the Audit Committee - Australian Centre for International Agricultural Research, Director – Solar Share Pty Ltd, CEO - Royal Australian Mint, Dyesol and Australian Capital Tourism, Acting Executive Director - Mint Directors Association Ltd, Chair - Capital Region Employment Council and Capital Region Area Consultative Committees, Treasurer - Canberra Business Council.
Suzanne Gearing
Board Member | Queanbeyan-Palerang
Suzanne offers over 40 years of experience working in senior roles across a variety of organisations including state government, SME’s, Corporations and NFP’s. Her career focus has been on supporting sustainable business growth by providing organisational leadership, strong strategic management, and positive stakeholder engagement.
Passionate about supporting regional NSW, creating sustainable, resilient and inclusive communities, and developing better health resources for regional and rural NSW, she is currently the National Programs Manager for Carers Australia and a member of the NSW Department of Health Network Community Engagement Committee.
A winner of the Transgrid Leadership award, Suzanne has led a number of volunteer organisations supporting the development of tourism and business growth, is a mentor for CALD MBA students, is the founder of a charity supporting men's mental health, and is an active volunteer supporting food insecurity.
Suzanne and her husband live on their bush farm in Mongarlowe on Yuin country, where they run a social enterprise bush farm with a focus on acclimatising bush food plants, including from her home region of K’gari, for both commercial production and sale of seedlings.
FAY STEWARD
Board Member | Bega
Fay brings in-depth knowledge of the intersection between government, business and community with over 30 years’ experience in executive management roles in the private sector, NSW government and several Sydney Metropolitan local councils heading up town planning. Her experience in strategic planning and business development continues to be applied in a voluntary capacity as Chair of Local Land Services South East Region and Chair of Tulgeen Disability Services Group.
Now partially retired Fay and her husband returned to her birthplace, Bega in 2013. She is passionate about supporting her local community and is committed to being an advocate for change that improves the lives of people across the region. She is an active member of Bega Rotary and local RFS Support Brigade and is a keen cyclist.
Stephen Wentworth
Board Member | Wingecarribee
Stephen is the principal of Feeding the Future Consulting & Research. Collaborating with an extensive network of contacts throughout the Australian agricultural industry he has gained a deep understanding and knowledge of issues effecting todays’ farmers.
Stephen is the current Agribusiness Member of the Regional Advisory Council TAFE NSW – Southern Region and a former Director of Agribusiness Australia. Stephen has a keen interest in sustainable agriculture and food security in the Asia Pacific region.
Stephen has more than 20 years-experience in the Agri-sector, including as:
a consulting agronomist for one of the leading private independent resellers on the Liverpool Plains in northern New South Wales
an advisor and research manager for one of the leading private agronomic and advisory consultancy firms in South Australia
a senior research manager for the largest global provider of market research to the agricultural industry
Stephen has over 15 years of experience conducting market research studies in crop protection, animal health, pest control and turf markets, agricultural machinery, banking, and the Agri-sector in general across Australia and New Zealand. His experience encompasses both the government and private industry sector, including multinational companies and grower organisations.
Stephen holds a Master of Science in Agriculture (Research Agronomy) and Bachelor of Science in Agriculture (majoring in Agronomy) from The University of Sydney and a Graduate Certificate in Regional Development from The University of Western Australia.
Genevieve Jacobs AM
Board Member | ACT
Genevieve, CEO of Hands Across Canberra, has extensive experience in media and communications, highlighted by her roles as Group Editor - Regional Media Group, Director - Jacobs Communications, Radio Presenter – Australian Broadcasting Corporation. Genevieve’s professional experience includes representation on an extensive number of boards and committees, including most recently as the Chair of the Canberra International Music Festival and as a Director of the Cultural Facilities Corporation, UTS Centre for Media Transition, and the Australian Centre for Christianity and Culture.
Lynne O’Brien
Board Member | Goulburn Mulwaree
Lynne is a senior event and communications professional with three decades of experience across the Not for Profit, Public, Commercial and grass roots Community sectors. Lynne’s Board and committee experience includes Chair and Co-President - Sydney PRIDE Centre, National Executive - Australian Sponsorship Marketing Association, Founding Member - Sydney Gay & Lesbian Mardi Gras Limited & Diversity ACT, Co-Chair - SpringOUT Pride Festival Canberra, President - SpringOUT Pride Festival Canberra and Board Member - National Folk Festival Canberra.
Leanne Atkinson
Board Member | Bega Valley
Leanne, CEO of the Bega Aboriginal Land Council, has extensive experience in project management, social and economic development, stakeholder engagement and training delivery. Leanne was a Councillor for the former Snowy River Shire Council and a Board Member for Mumbulla Community Foundation, Regional Development Australia Southern Inland and Capital Region Development Board.
Warwick Winn
Board Member | Eurobodalla
Warwick, the General Manager of Eurobodalla Shire Council, is an Affiliate of the Governance Institute of Australia, has completed the Australian Institute of Company Directors program, and holds a Masters of Environmental and Local Government Law. Warwick has strong advocacy and project delivery skills, with an excellent record of leading successful and innovative policy development and real-world service outcomes, demonstrated through his current appointment as General Manager, and previous appointments in the same role with Penrith City, Manningham City and North Sydney Councils. Warwick’s previous experience includes Board Member of Penrith Performing & Visual Arts.
