CEO REPORT

The CEO Report provides an insider's view of our organisation, shedding light on the victories we've celebrated in our communities.

Spring certainly has sprung early this year and aren’t the blossoms just incredible at the moment. Driving through the region over the last couple of weeks, we have been overwhelmed by the beauty. In saying that, we have also noticed that much of our region is looking drier and drier as we get closer to summer.

Given the 2019/20 bush fire experience in our region, I implore you to get prepared now and update your emergency plans. Open up the discussions with your family and friends with these fantastic resources available online, from the Rural Fire Service including Bushfire Survival Information  and a downloadable Survival Plan.

Last week I attended a Small Business Community Information session in Queanbeyan, hosted by the Hon Kristy McBain MP, and attended by Member for Monaro, Steve Whan MP and Kenrick Winchester, the QPRC Mayor. The small business community were given the floor to ask all three levels of government questions on any topic they desired. I attended with other agencies including Service NSW, the ATO, QPRC and Enterprise Plus to provide the small businesses with information on the extensive supports available to them. This was certainly a very successful event, and I would like to commend Kristy, her team, Steve and Kenrick for having the courage to face the public in such an open and honest forum.

RDASI is on the front foot when it comes to providing real, on-the-ground responses to government inquiries. Our August submission, was the Communications Legislation Amendment Bill (2023) and the responses to our survey providing the context to our submission, were certainly passionate. We appreciate the time it takes to complete these survey’s and thank everyone who responded. If you would like to read any of our submissions, please go to our website and check out our strategy page.

Talking about our website, we have been working on improving and updating the information it holds. After every Regional Connect Roadshow event, we load the information onto our site for ease of access for anyone wanting a refresh. For example, if you attended our Grants tips and tricks event, go to our Grants section to find all the presentations from the night. If you want more information on the migration session we held back in February, take a look at our Migration page for the detailed fact sheet we sent out after the event.

Over the next couple of weeks we are on tour with the Regional Tech Hub (RTH), Telstra and NBN sharing information on how to improve communications connectivity. RTH is a free service funded by the Australian government to assist regional and rural dwellers discover the best solutions for their unique locations. As soon as we finish the events, the information will be shared on our RDASI website, so please refer back to it next week.

Small Business Month is coming up in October and RDASI will be collecting and collating a calendar of events from across our region. We will be sending this out in a separate newsletter as soon as possible, with as many of the links to register that we can access. Keep an eye out for this in the next couple of weeks.

As always, RDASI is here to support you, please reach out at admin@rdasi.org.au.

The Welcome Experience

The Welcome Experience pictured

The Welcome Experience Goulburn (TWE), is a new service aimed at supporting workers who are considering or have recently made the move to Goulburn. This service is designed to help new essential workers and their families settle in and become one of the locals. We can extend this support to people who have made the move in the past 12 months, so please reach out if you would like any assistance in making Goulburn your forever home.

Since the beginning of July, we have had conversations with 17 individuals about moving to Goulburn, with 5 successful relocations to date.

At the end of August, the advertisement for TWE Goulburn was released featuring Fidelis, an employee of the Departments of Community and Justice. Watch the advertisement below.

The Welcome Experience have some big changes planned, including a PR campaign being shot in the coming months, so keep an eye (and ear) out for future announcements.
